ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Korenizatsiya

Korenizatsiya was a policy in the Soviet Union that encouraged more people to be involved in government and other important positions. It was especially for people who lived in regions where different languages were spoken, such as Ukraine or Georgia.

Imagine you and your friends are playing a game with different rules, but only some of your friends know how to play because they have played it before. Korenizatsiya is like saying that all of your friends can learn the rules and play together, even if they speak different languages or come from different places.

The Soviet government wanted to make sure that everyone had a fair chance to be involved and make decisions, even if they didn't speak the same language or come from the same place as the leaders. By supporting korenizatsiya, the government hoped to build a stronger and more united country.
