Kwek-kwek

Kwek-kwek is a Filipino street food that is loved by many people. It is made by taking a boiled quail egg, covering it with an orange batter made of flour, cornstarch, and food coloring, and then deep-frying it until it becomes crispy and golden brown.

Now, imagine playing with play-dough and rolling the quail egg around in the soft play-dough. Then, put it in an oven and wait until it turns into a hard ball. This is what boiling does to an egg.

After that, you get your paint set and mix together orange and yellow paint to make the color of the kwek-kwek batter. But instead of paint, we use food coloring.

Once the batter is ready, we dip the boiled quail egg into the batter, just like you dip your finger into paint. Then, we put the egg in a big pot filled with hot oil and let it fry, just like how your mom cooks french fries in hot oil.

When it's crispy and golden brown, we can take it out of the oil and put it on a stick to make it easy to eat. There you have it - a delicious and crispy kwek-kwek snack!
