ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Landform

Okay, kiddo, have you ever played on a playground or gone on a hike with your family? You might have noticed that the ground isn't always flat. Sometimes you might be walking up a big hill or sliding down a steep slope. These different shapes and features on the ground are called landforms!

Landforms are the different shapes and features that make up the land around us. Just like how your face has different parts like a nose, mouth, and ears, the ground also has different parts like hills, valleys, cliffs, and mountains.

Some landforms are big and some are small. For example, a hill might be small and easy to climb, while a mountain might be huge and tall and take a lot of effort to climb to the top. You might have even seen some landforms that are round and smooth like a ball, like a hill, or jagged and bumpy like a rocky canyon.

Landforms are made by many different things. Sometimes they are created by nature, like when a river cuts through rock and makes a deep valley. Other times humans create them, like when we build dams, roads, or buildings.

Landforms are important because they impact the environment around us. They can influence the weather, the type of plants and animals that live in an area, and even the way humans build cities and towns.

So next time you're playing outside, take a look at the ground and see if you can spot any cool landforms around you!
