Legal positivism

Legal positivism is a way of thinking about laws. It says that whether something is a law and what it means doesn't depend on an idea of what the law should be or whether it is fair, it just depends on what the law says. This means that if a law says you can't throw a ball in the street, then you can't throw a ball in the street - even if it would be really fun!
