ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Length measurement

Length measurement is the way we find out how long something is. Let's say you have a toy car, and you want to know how long it is. To do this, you need to use something called a ruler.

A ruler is a long, flat stick with numbers on it. The numbers are there to help you know how long something is. When you put the ruler next to the car, you can see how many numbers the car is long or how many inches or centimeters.

If you are using inches, you start at the very beginning of the ruler, which is called "zero". Then you move the ruler to the other end of the car, and see which number it lines up with. If it's lined up with the number six, then the car is six inches long.

If you are using centimeters, you start at the zero mark on the ruler and find the number on the ruler that is closest to the end of the object you are measuring. That number gives you the length of the object in centimeters.

You can use length measurement for many different things, like measuring how tall you are, how long your bed is, or how wide a room is. It's important to know how to measure things so you can make sure they fit in the right place or are the right size for what you need.
