Lightning

Lightning is like a really big spark that happens in the sky. It happens when there's a big storm with thunder and rain. The thunder is the sound that happens after the lightning. Lightning happens because of a big charge of electricity that builds up in the clouds.

When the charge gets really big, it needs to get rid of some of it. It does this by sending a bolt of electricity down from the cloud to the ground. That's the lightning we see.

When the bolt of electricity hits the ground or something else, it makes a super loud sound called thunder. Thunder is the sound waves bouncing around after the lightning.

Lightning can be really dangerous, so it's important to stay inside during storms and not be near anything tall like trees or poles.
