Locally unwanted land use (LULU) is a term used to describe activities that occur on a certain piece of land and cause nuisance or displeasure to people living near it. Examples include airports, garbage dumps, noisy factories, and hazardous waste sites. These activities might produce dust or noise that affects nearby homes, disrupt the beauty of an area, or even be dangerous to people or animals in the vicinity. People nearby might not want these activities occurring on the land, even if they are legal, so they try to stop or at least reduce the negative impacts they have on their community.
