Mercury 13

Mercury 13 were thirteen female astronauts in the 1960s. Before humans went to space, the United States government wanted to make sure that it was safe. So they started a program to send animals into space, and then they started to look at sending people. They decided to test thirteen women to see if they could do the same training as the men astronauts, and these women were called the Mercury 13. Unfortunately, the program was stopped before it went any further. But these brave women were the first group of women who could have potentially gone to space.
