Military coup

A military coup is when a group of military officers, or sometimes just one, try to take control of the government away from the elected people in charge. They try and do this without going through the normal legal process. This can mean they try to take control of the government by force, with guns and tanks and other weapons. Then they can become the ones who are in charge of the country. It’s like a group of people taking over the government and changing the rules, so that they are the ones in charge.
