Nine familial exterminations

Nine familial exterminations is a very old punishment from Ancient China where if someone in your family was accused of a crime, not only would they be punished, but everyone related to them (including children) would be punished too! So, if your granddad did something bad, then all of his children, grandchildren, cousins, and aunts and uncles would be punished too. This was a very harsh punishment because it meant that innocent people were punished for the crimes of others, and it was meant to scare people into not doing bad things. Today, this punishment is considered cruel and unjust, and thankfully it is no longer used anywhere in the world.
