Ossuary

An ossuary is a special box where people put the bones of people who have died. Imagine having a big toy box, but instead of toys, you put all the bones of people who are no longer alive.

People used to use ossuaries a long time ago, especially if they needed to make space for new graves. They would put the bones of people who had been buried for a while in an ossuary so they could use the grave again for someone else. Sometimes, they would even put the bones of their own family members in an ossuary to keep them safe and close to home.

Nowadays, we don't use ossuaries as much because we have other ways to keep the bones of people who have died safe, like cremation. But they still exist and some people might still use them as a special way to remember their loved ones who have passed away.
