Overhang (automotive)

When you see a really cool car driving down the street, you might notice that some of them have a part that sticks out a little bit on the front or the back. This part is called the overhang.

Imagine if you were building a Lego car and you put two pieces together, but one piece was just a little bit longer than the other. That longer piece would be the overhang.

In cars, the overhang helps to protect the body of the car from getting damaged if it bumps into something like a curb or a high spot in the road. It also helps aerodynamics, which is like how easily the car can move through the air.

It's important for car designers to make sure that the overhang is just the right size. If it's too big, the car might not be able to turn as well, and if it's too small, the body of the car might get damaged more easily.

So, overhang helps to protect the car and make it work well, like when you build your Lego car and make sure all the pieces fit together just right.
