ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Overillumination

Overillumination is when there is too much light in a room or a space. It's like when someone shines a bright flashlight directly into your eyes and it hurts or makes it hard for you to see anything else around you.

Just like how too much of anything can be bad for you, too much light can also be harmful in different ways. Overillumination can cause headaches, eye strain, and even disrupt our sleep patterns.

Think about trying to fall asleep with a bright, shining light in your room - it would be really difficult to get any rest. That's why it's important to balance the amount of light we use in our homes, workplaces, and public places so that we can function comfortably and optimize our performance.

Next time someone asks you to dim the lights, remember that it may be for everyone's benefit!
