ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Permanent residency

Permanently residency is like a big sticker that says you're allowed to stay in a country for as long as you want. Whenever someone wants to move and live in another country, they need to ask permission to stay there.

Now, let's say you asked permission and the country said that you can stay there as long as you want, that is called permanent residency. It's like a super special permission that allows you to live and work just like any other person in that country.

But even though it's a super special permission, it's still not exactly like being a citizen. A citizen can vote, a citizen can work for the government and a citizen can move to another country without any problems, but a permanent resident may not have all the same rights - for example, you might not be able to vote or work for the government - but you can live and work there without any problems.

So, in summary, permanent residency is like getting a really big sticker that says you can live in a country as long as you want, without any problems, but you might not have all the same rights as a citizen of that country.
