Pyrolysis

Pyrolysis is a way to turn things like plastic, wood, tires, and other solid materials into fuel and other useful products. It starts by heating up the materials without oxygen, so that they break down into smaller molecules, called pyrolysis oil and gases. The oils can be used as fuel in engines, and the gases can be used to make electricity. The products from pyrolysis are much better for the environment than burning the original materials.
