ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Redevelopment

Redevelopment is a big word that means taking something that is not working well anymore and making it new again so that it can be useful and safe. Imagine that you have a toy that you love to play with, but it gets old and broken. You can't play with it anymore because it's not working like it used to. So, what can you do? You can fix it! You can take it apart and put it back together so that it's just like new. That's kind of what redevelopment is like.

Sometimes cities or towns look old and messy, and they might not be safe to live in anymore. They might need new buildings or safer streets to play on. So, the people who take care of those places will come up with a plan to make them better. They might tear down old buildings that are not safe and build new ones. They could plant more trees and build new bike paths or sidewalks to make it easier for people to get around. They might even clean up parks and playgrounds so that kids like us can play safely.

Redevelopment can take a lot of time and money, but it's important to make sure that our towns and cities are safe and happy places to live. So, just like how you fix your old toys, people can fix cities and towns to make them new and great again!
