ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Right to a healthy environment

Okay, so you know that just like how we need clean air, water and food to grow and be healthy, the environment around us also needs to be clean and healthy!

The right to a healthy environment means that everyone has the right to live in a place that is clean, healthy and safe for them to grow and live in. This means that we have a right to breathe clean air, drink fresh water, and eat healthy food. We also have a right to live in a place where we can enjoy nature and the beauty around us.

Sometimes, people don't take good care of the environment around us, and this can harm the air, water, and land that we live on. For example, factories might release harmful gases into the air which makes it hard to breathe, or people might litter and pollute the rivers which can harm the animals living there.

So, the right to a healthy environment means that we have the right to live in a place where we can be healthy and safe from harm caused by the environment, and that everyone needs to work together to take care of the environment around us.
