The Rust Belt is a region in the United States that used to be known for its steel factories. These steel factories were big places where a lot of people worked together to make steel that could be used for a lot of different things. Steel was important for making things like bridges, buildings, cars and tools. But a lot of the steel factories closed down in the 1980s. This made it hard for the people who used to work there to find other jobs. So the region became known as the Rust Belt because there used to be lots of steel factories, but now they are all empty and rusty.
