ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Sallekhana

Sallekhana is a practice in some religions where a person chooses to stop eating and drinking as a way to peacefully and voluntarily end their life when they feel their time has come to leave this life. It is also called Santhara or Samadhi Marana.

Imagine playing a game and you have had a lot of fun but now you are very tired and need to rest. Sallekhana is kind of like that when someone decides that they have lived a good life but are ready to say goodbye and rest peacefully forever.

But it's important to remember that this is a very difficult decision and only a person who is physically and mentally strong can make that decision. And not all religions believe in or practice Sallekhana. It's important to value and take care of our lives but we should also respect and understand different beliefs and practices of each other.
