Saponification value

Okay kiddo, so when we talk about saponification value, we're talking about this weird thing that happens when you mix oils or fats with something called lye. Lye is a really strong chemical that can be dangerous if you don't know how to use it properly, so you always have to be very careful when you're working with it.

When you mix oils or fats with lye, you get this new thing called soap. And the saponification value is basically a way of measuring how much lye you need to make a certain amount of soap.

Think of it like baking a cake. You need to have the right amount of ingredients to make your cake come out yummy and fluffy. Well, with soap-making, you need to have the right amount of oils or fats and lye to make your soap work well and be good for your skin.

So the saponification value is like a recipe for making soap. By figuring out the saponification value for the oils or fats you're using, you can make sure you add just the right amount of lye to make your soap turn out great.
