Social anxiety is a type of worry or fear that people experience when they are around other people. It can cause people to be really nervous and worry about how others will judge them or what other people might think about them. People may feel like everyone can see their anxiety, even though it is hard to tell. People with social anxiety may be afraid to talk to others, go to new places, or take part in activities or conversations. They may feel like their thoughts, feelings, or behavior aren't normal and be scared to be around other people. People with social anxiety may also have physical symptoms, like shaking, feeling sick, or having trouble breathing.
