ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Structure from motion

Structure from motion (SfM) is a way for computers to figure out the 3D structure of a scene from a series of 2D pictures. It's like a computer trying to put together a puzzle. First, the computer looks at all the lines and shapes in the pictures, and then it tries to figure out the best way to fit them together to make a complete 3D shape. Think of it like taking a bunch of photos from many different angles, and then using those photos to figure out what the original 3D scene looks like.
