ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Syphon

Imagine you have a glass of water and you want to move all of the water into another glass. But, you don't want to pour the water out of one glass into the other because it might spill. Instead, you can use a syphon.

A syphon is a long tube, like a straw, with two ends. One end of the syphon goes into the glass with the water and the other end goes into the empty glass. When you suck on the end of the syphon in the empty glass, it creates suction and pulls the water from the first glass through the syphon and into the empty glass.

This works because the water in the syphon is pulled by gravity. The water in the first glass is higher up than the water in the second glass, so it naturally wants to flow downwards. As long as the syphon stays lower than the water in the first glass and higher than the water in the second glass, the water will keep flowing through the syphon until the first glass is empty.

So, a syphon is a clever way to move liquids from one place to another without spilling them.
