Tangent

A tangent is like a straight line that touches a circle or other shape. Imagine a big pot and putting a ruler on top of it so that the ruler is touching the middle of the pot but not actually inside of it. The ruler is like a tangent to the pot. In math, tangents are used to find distances and angles when working with circles and curved shapes.
