ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Telemarketing

Telemarketing is like when someone calls you on the phone to try and sell you something or convince you to do something. It’s like when you get a call from someone saying they can save you money on your cable bill or asking if you want to donate to a charity.

Imagine someone really wants you to buy a toy and they call you on the phone to tell you all about it. They might tell you how much fun it is to play with and how cool it looks. They might even offer you a special deal or discount if you buy it right now!

Sometimes, people don't like getting telemarketing calls because they can be annoying or interrupt what you’re doing. That’s why there are rules about when and how telemarketers can call people. They have to follow these rules or they could get in trouble.
