ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Teleology

Teleology is the study of things that happen for a reason. It's a way of looking at things and understanding why and how things happen. For example, a teleologist might look at a caterpillar changing into a butterfly and decide that it happened because they both have different jobs to do, like the butterfly will pollinate flowers and the caterpillar will help the flowers grow new leaves. They might even wonder if the caterpillar knew it would turn into a butterfly one day, and it was all part of some big plan. That could be called teleology!
