Trap point

You know how sometimes when you are walking, you might accidentally trip and fall? That can be really scary and hurt a lot. But, imagine if there was something that could help stop you from getting really hurt if you did fall. That's kind of like what a trap point does.

A trap point is a place on train tracks where two sets of tracks come together in a Y shape. When a train is approaching the trap point, there's a special switch that will make the train go in the direction of the less dangerous tracks, like going left instead of going right. This means that if the train accidentally derails or goes off the tracks, it will be heading towards a safer area instead of heading straight towards something dangerous like a train station, a building or people.

So, a trap point is like a safety feature for trains that helps reduce the risk of accidents and keeps everyone safe. Just like how wearing a helmet when you ride your bike or wearing a seatbelt in a car is a safety feature that protects you, the trap point is a safety feature that helps protect people riding on trains.
