Voice disorders

Okay kiddo, when we talk we use our voice. But sometimes our voice can get sick, just like our body. These are called voice disorders.

There are many different types of voice disorders, but some common ones are when our voice sounds really hoarse or scratchy. This can happen when we use our voice too much or talk too loudly, especially if we do it for a long time.

Another type of voice disorder is when our voice sounds like we have a cold or like we are really stuffed up. This can happen because our throat or our nose is swollen or blocked.

Sometimes people can have a voice disorder called stuttering, where they have a hard time speaking smoothly and their words get stuck or repeated. This can be frustrating and make it hard for someone to communicate.

If someone has a voice disorder, they might need to go see a special doctor called a speech therapist, who can help them learn how to use their voice better and make it stronger again. They might also need to rest their voice and take a break from talking for a little while.
