The yellow peril was a term used in the late 1800s to early 1900s to describe fear of Asian immigrants coming to countries like the United States or Canada. People were afraid that the Asians were going to “take over” and bring violence, crime, and disease to those countries. People were also afraid that the Asians would take away jobs from people who were already living in those countries. This fear was mostly unfounded and based on racism, as it did not take into account the many positive contributions that Asian immigrants make to those countries.
