Affordances

Affordances are like clues that tell you how something works or what you can do with it. Imagine you see a door with a handle. The handle tells you that you can pull it to open the door. The handle is an affordance.

If you look at a toy car, the wheels tell you that you can roll it on the floor. The wheels are the affordances.

In the same way, everything around us has affordances. A phone has buttons that let you make calls and send messages. A cup has a handle that lets you pick it up easily.
