ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Background noise

Okay kiddo, have you ever tried to listen to something really important but someone else was talking nearby or the TV was on? That's what we call background noise.

It's all the sounds around us that we can hear, but we're not really paying attention to them. Things like traffic, people talking, music playing, or even the sound of the air conditioner.

Sometimes background noise can be helpful, like when we're in a busy classroom and our teacher is talking. The noise helps block out other distractions so we can focus on what's important.

But sometimes background noise can be really annoying. Like when we're trying to sleep and our little brother won't stop playing with his loud toys.

So remember kiddo, background noise is all the sounds around us that we're not really focused on. Sometimes it's good, and sometimes it's bad.
