Colonisation

Colonisation is when one country takes control of another by sending people to live there and rule over them. It is like a big family taking over a smaller family's home. The country that takes over is called the "colonising" country, and the country that gets taken over is called the "colonised" country. Colonising countries usually want the colonised countries to do what they say, and even change their ways to fit what the colonising countries want. Some things the colonising countries might want the colonised countries to do include giving up control of their natural resources, or their culture. Colonisation often happened during times when countries were competing for power and wanted to expand the areas they controlled.
