Defaunation

Defaunation is when animals start to disappear from an area. Animals are a really important part of the environment and so when they start to disappear, it can cause a lot of problems. For example, some animals help the environment by keeping down the population of other animals or helping plants to spread, so if a certain kind of animal disappears all of a sudden, it can cause big changes in the environment. It can also cause problems for people who rely on animals for food or other resources. So, defaunation is a big problem because it can mean animals are disappearing from an area, which can cause a lot of problems.
