Egg donation

Egg donation is when a woman gives eggs to another woman who cannot have a baby because of problems with her own eggs. Just like you have crayons and toys that you can share with your friends, these women can share their eggs so that other women can become mummies.

The woman who donates eggs goes through a special process called egg retrieval. First, doctors give her special medicine to help her produce many eggs at once. Then, doctors use a special tool called a needle and take the eggs out of the woman's body. But don’t worry, the woman is put to sleep during this so she doesn’t feel anything.

Doctors then give the eggs to another woman who wants to have a baby. This woman’s husband or partner gives his sperm to help fertilize the egg. After the egg and sperm join together, a tiny baby grows inside the woman’s belly.

This process is very kind and helpful because it allows women who cannot have babies to still have a chance to become a mum.
