ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Genetic testing

Genetic testing is like playing detective with your body. Your body is like a big book with lots of tiny letters in it that you can't read with your eyes. But scientists have special tools that can help read those tiny letters. These letters are called genes and they tell your body what to do and how to grow.

Sometimes, some of these letters are not the same as everyone else's. That can make your body work in different ways. Genetic testing helps scientists find out if you have any of these differences. It's like a puzzle that they put together to see if everything matches up or if there's something different.

This can be helpful because some genetic differences can make you more likely to have a certain disease, like cancer or heart problems. Genetic testing can help you find out if you have a higher chance of getting one of these diseases so you can work with your doctor to stay healthy.

It's really important to talk to your parents and doctor to see if genetic testing is right for you. They can help you understand more about it and answer any questions you may have.
