Hegemonic masculinity

Hegemonic masculinity is how people think a real man is supposed to act. It means that people think that a real man is someone who is strong, shows no emotion, and can take charge of any situation. People who don't fit this 'ideal' of what a man should be (or people who aren't male at all) can be looked down on or even discriminated against because of these expectations.
