History of metaphysical naturalism

Metaphysical naturalism is the philosophical idea that nature is all there is. It suggests that everything in the universe was caused by natural forces, that the universe works according to natural laws, and that there is nothing supernatural or spiritual outside of nature. Metaphysical naturalism is an ancient belief, dating back to the pre-Socratic philosophers of ancient Greece. They believed that the universe was composed of natural elements, like water, air, fire, and earth. They believed these elements worked together in an orderly way, and they were able to explain the natural world without resorting to supernatural or spiritual forces. Over time, metaphysical naturalism evolved and became the basis for modern scientific study. Today, it is still the basis for scientific inquiry, and it is the foundation for our understanding of the universe and the laws that govern it.
