ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Horizontal plane

Have you ever played with a toy airplane or watched an airplane fly in the sky? If you look at it from the side, you can imagine that it's flying on a flat surface, almost like it's on a big desk. This is the horizontal plane!

Think of your bedroom floor, which is also a flat surface, but it's not the same as the horizontal plane. The horizontal plane is a theoretical line that goes straight through the center of the Earth horizontally. It's like an imaginary line that helps us understand things that are level or parallel to the ground.

So, when we say something is on the horizontal plane, it means it's on a flat surface that's level with the Earth. For example, if you're lying on your back in bed, your body is parallel to the horizontal plane.

Architects, engineers, and pilots use the concept of the horizontal plane to make sure things are level or parallel to the ground. It helps them make sure that everything is straight and balanced.

So, remember, the horizontal plane is like an imaginary flat surface that helps us understand when things are level or parallel to the ground.
