ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Kālua

Kālua is a special way of cooking pork (which is a type of meat that comes from pigs). First, people dig a big hole (like a really deep, giant hole in the ground) and start a fire at the bottom of it. Then, they cover the fire with some rocks and wait until the rocks get very hot. Once the rocks are super hot, they put some green leaves on top of them. After that, they put the pork on top of the leaves and cover the entire thing with more leaves and some dirt.
Now the pork cooks very slowly over a long time, and it gets very tender and flavorful because the smoke from the fire and the moisture from the leaves keeps it juicy. Once it's done cooking, they dig up the pork and it's ready to eat! It's a special way of cooking that people in Hawaii have been doing for a long time, and it's a really yummy way to cook pork.
