ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Korenizatsiia

Korenizatsiia was a concept that was used in the Soviet Union to encourage national identity and culture among different groups of people. It was like a big effort to make everyone feel special and important, just like you're the special one in class and all your friends think you're the best.

The idea was to promote the different languages, traditions, and customs of each ethnic group within the Soviet Union. This means that if you're from a different group of people, you can still speak your own language, do your own things, and still be recognized as part of the group.

So it's like saying, "Hey, we're all different, but we're still important and valuable." And it made people feel good and proud of their own culture, which is always a good thing!
