ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Non-profit

A non-profit is kind of like a special club where people work together to help make the world a better place, but they don't get paid like they would for a regular job. Instead, all the money that they get goes towards helping other people, animals, or the planet.

Imagine you and your friends have a lemonade stand. You work really hard all summer long, but instead of keeping the money that you make for yourselves, you decide to give it to a charity that helps sick children in the hospital. That's kind of like what a non-profit does.

Non-profits can do all sorts of different things. Some help animals, like dogs that need homes or endangered species that need protection. Others help people, like building houses for families who don't have a place to live or providing food for kids who are hungry. There are also non-profits that help the environment, like cleaning up beaches or planting trees.

Even though the people who work for non-profits don't get paid very much (or sometimes not at all!), they still love what they do because they know they are making a difference in the world.
