Pasteurization

Pasteurization is like making sure that your milk or eggs are safe to drink or eat. It's a way of heating up food and drinks to kill any germs or bacteria that might be harmful to us.

Just like how mommy or daddy might boil water before they make tea, milk and juice are heated to a high temperature for a short amount of time to kill the germs in them. This helps to make it safe for us to drink these things without getting sick.

Louis Pasteur, who gave the process its name in the 1800s, helped us learn that we can protect ourselves from many diseases by killing the germs that cause them. So, when we have pasteurized milk or juice, it means that the drink has been heated up to a temperature that keeps us healthy instead of making us sick.
