Paternalism

Paternalism is when someone in a position of authority acts like a father by making decisions that they think are best for someone else. This means that even if the person being made decisions for doesn't agree, the authority figure still goes ahead with the decision. For example, a parent might not let their child go to a party, even if the child really wants to go, because the parent believes it is in the child's best interest.
