ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Phase (archaeology)

Phase in archaeology refers to a group of things (like artifacts or buildings) that were made or used at around the same time. Think of it like a group of toys you and your friends played with during a certain period.

Archaeologists use phases to help them organize and understand the past. They can see if certain things were common during certain times, and if people were making or using things differently at different phases.

Just like how you might have different favorite toys at different ages, people in the past also had different ways of making and using things at different phases. So, by studying the phases, archaeologists can learn about how people lived, how their cultures changed over time, and how they interacted with each other.
