ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Square foot

Imagine a piece of land that you can stand on. If you were to measure this land, you would measure it in two ways: length and width. So if you were to measure a square piece of land that was 1 foot long and 1 foot wide, you would have a square foot.

Now let's say you have a bigger piece of land that is 6 feet long and 8 feet wide. To find out how many square feet this land is, you need to multiply the length by the width. In this case, you would multiply 6 by 8 (6 x 8), which would give you 48 square feet.

Square foot is just a way to measure the size of a piece of land, just like we use inches to measure the length of something, or pounds to measure weight. The bigger the square foot number, the bigger the piece of land is.
