ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Square yard

A square yard is a way we measure an area of land. A lot of times we want to know how much space we have or need to work with, and we can do that by counting how many square yards it is.

Imagine you have a big piece of paper, and you want to know how much of it you can draw on. If you divided the paper into 1 yard by 1 yard squares (that's like 3 feet by 3 feet), you can count how many squares there are and that will tell you how many square yards your paper is.

So when we talk about things in square yards, we're really just saying how much space there is if you multiply one yard by another yard. It's like if you have a toy car that is 1 foot long and 1 foot wide, you can say it takes up 1 square foot. If you have a bigger area, like a yard, you can say it takes up 1 square yard.
