A washing machine is like a big magic box that takes our dirty clothes and turns them clean again. It has a big round door that we open to put our clothes inside. Then, we put some special soap and water in the machine and close the door. The machine does the rest of the work for us!
Inside the washing machine, there are a lot of little parts that work together to clean our clothes. First, the machine fills up with water so our clothes can get all wet. Then, it starts moving our clothes around and around so the water and soap can get all over them. This is called "agitating" the clothes.
After a while, the machine drains out all the dirty water and fills up again with clean water to rinse our clothes. Then, it spins really fast so all the extra water can go out of our clothes so they don't drip all over the place when we take them out. This is called "spinning."
Finally, the machine stops and we can open the door to take out our clean, fresh-smelling clothes! It's like magic!
