Abacá

Abacá is a type of plant that is grown in the Philippines. People grow it because they can use parts of the plant to make many things like string and fabric.

The abacá plant is tall and has really long leaves that are sort of like grass. The people who grow abacá have to wait a long time for the plant to grow big enough to use. When it's finally big enough, they cut off the leaves and take out the inside part, which is called a fiber. This fiber is very strong and can be made into different things.

For example, people can twist the fiber together to make string, or they can weave it into fabric to make clothes or bags. The abacá plant is really important to the Philippines because it helps people make things to sell and make money.
