Albinism in humans is when a person is born without the normal amount of a pigment called melanin in their skin, hair, or eyes. Melanin is what gives color to our skin, hair, and eyes. People with albinism often have very pale skin, light colored hair, and very light colored eyes. People with albinism sometimes have problems seeing in bright light and can be more sensitive to other people's reactions to their appearance. Not everyone with albinism looks the same or has the same experiences, but it is likely that people with albinism have a different color skin, hair, or eyes than most other people.
