ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Aramaic studies

Aramaic is an old language that was spoken a long, long time ago in a place called Mesopotamia (which is now part of modern-day Iraq and other countries.)

People who study Aramaic are trying to learn more about the language, and try to figure out how people used to speak and write this language. They might read old texts written in Aramaic to try and understand what people were saying back then, and the culture they lived in.

Some people might be interested in studying Aramaic because they are trying to understand the historical or religious significance of certain texts, like the Bible or the Talmud, which were originally written in Aramaic.

It's kind of like doing detective work, trying to piece together a puzzle from a really long time ago, so that we can learn more about the world and the people who came before us.
